Subscribing to Finextra Articles

We had a request from a Finextra Community member who wanted to be able to subscribe to a Finextra article so that he could be notified if anyone made a comment on it.

We thought that this was a good idea as up until now the only way to discover if anyone has commented on an article (without manually checking the article all the time) is to comment upon it yourself, and then wait for an email to your inbox when someone else comments.

To subscribe to an article, there is now an orange button at the end of the article with the caption, "Notify me when someone comments", click this, and that's all you need to do. If you no longer wish to receive notifications, then simply click the red, "Stop notifying me of future comments" button.

You'll need to be logged in to be able to subscribe to an article.

The button, as below, in the following screenshot:

Dirk, is that your cat? Or have you gone all 'Planet of the Felines' on us? :-)

thanks Dirk!

Since Finextra added the ability to comment anonymously, it didn't seem like too much trouble for someone to add a simple note to a Blog to say something like 'interesting, well done' or 'sorry but I disagree - anyone else?'

90% of Blogs go uncommented, and we should encourage comments, anonymously or not.

I'll go anon on this one and see if I still get the email alerts.

OK,

And now I can confirm that even with an Anonymous comment, you still get an email when anyone else comments.  So there really is no excuse for not adding a simply comment to a blog if you really want to track it.... its at least a courtesy to the author of the blog that someone is interested in it.

Wouldn't it be better to see the orange button even before logging on? When I just checked, only the text link "Log in to receive notifications when someone posts a comment" - not the orange button - was visible prior to logging on.

You have to be logged in to select 'notifications' because otherwise how would Finextra know where to send the emails!  They need to know who is asking.

@Finextra Member: Finextra needs to know who's asking only after s/he has asked, not before. Just to be clear, the sequence I've proposed is (1) Everyone reading the article will see the orange button without having to log on (2) If someone wants to subscribe to comments without adding a comment at that point, they click the orange button (3) The logon screen opens up and they log on (4) Finextra knows whom to send the notification emails to.
