Nomad Debit Direct is an online and EMV compliant service based on the vendor's Cortex platform. The service enables financial firms to issue fully functional, own branded debit payment cards.

Leeds & Holbeck will use the system to issue Maestro debit cards to customers for the first time.

The society plans to introduce a portfolio of debit cards in an attempt to expand its customer base by attracting the younger 35-55 year old market compared to its current market profile of 55+ year old members.

Geoff Turnbull, general manager, management services, Leeds & Holbeck, says: "The Society evaluated a number of options and concluded that the Nomad Debit Direct managed service proposal, which is based on the Maestro card brand, is the most comprehensive of those reviewed and also provides the most rapid, cost-effective entry into the ATM/debit dard market."
