Lithuanian Presidency to agree rules on MiFID by end Dec

Lithuanian Presidency aims to agree new rules on MiFID and MiFIR by end December 2013

The Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union has published its work programme on economic and financial matters for the period July to December 2013.  Priority will be given to work on the banking union and by the end of the year the Presidency expects the Bank Recovery and Resolution Directive and the Deposit Guarantee Directive to be adopted. 

The Presidency will also seek to reach agreement with the European Parliament on new rules relating to:

  • markets in financial instruments (MiFID/MiFIR);
  • the central securities depositories regulation; and
  • revision of the anti-money laundering directive.
