Thomson Financial launches database conversion tools for Portia and Oneva

Thomson Financial has released a set of database conversion tools to streamline upgrades of its portfolio management system Portia and equity trade order management product Oneva Trade EQ.

The conversion tools allow clients to manage upgrades of both systems although Thomson Financial will provide training and support as part of a packaged service.

The vendor says database conversions previously requiring several days can now be completed in hours using the tools, and with lower associated operational risk.

The new software consists of a set of scripts that fully convert databases to include all database and table updates while maintaining data integrity. All aspects of the client's database are accounted for in the conversion, including transactional data, positions, portfolios, managed securities and system settings.

In addition, clients currently using older product versions can upgrade with fewer intermediate steps.

Suresh Kavan, president, investment management group, Thomson Financial, says upgrade processes are traditionally costly and time-consuming for users: "These tools provide clients with the flexibility to bring the upgrade process in house with less effort and impact on their operations."
