Wells Fargo is one of only four Internet sites authorised to accept donations on behalf of the American Red Cross. It is also the only site authorised to accept e-cheque donations to the Red Cross.

The west coast bank says over $100,000 in contributions has been funneled through the system since it was launched on Friday evening. Sixty per cent of donations have been made using e-cheques.

Wells Fargo has added the online payments capability to its suite of services for small businesses nationwide. The service combines InfoSpace's payment processing platform, Authorize.Net, with Wells Fargo's risk and fraud management technology.

The system enables users to accept most forms of payment through the Internet using a single online interface. In addition, users will be able to view and manage their online payments account and transaction history in real-time.
