The cash machines operate on Diebold's Agilis software platform - an open system that allows multiple vendors' terminals and technologies to co-exist on an ATM network.

Diebold says half the units supplied to the bank also feature its Night Drop Depository (NDD) self-service security product, which has been designed specifically for financial institutions in Italy and enables customers to use payment cards to process deposits at ATMs.

UniCredit Banca has begun roll out of the ATMs, with half already installed at branches across Italy.
