The AU-System browser is available for download from the bank's Web site and enables GSM phone and Palm Pilot users to get mobile access to Swedbank's WAP banking service.

Hakan Nyberg, manager of Swedbank's Bank via Internet programme, says: "With this solution adapted to the Palm Pilot personal digital assistant, even more people are going to be able to use the WAP services we offer."

Swedbank's collaboration with AU-System makes it the first Swedish bank able to offer an alternative to WAP phones for wireless access to Internet-based bank services. The customer uses the infrared port of an ordinary GSM mobile phone to connect the PDA to the Internet.

AU-System claims to be the first company to develop a WAP browser for the Palm Pilot. It's contract with Swedbank authorises the bank to distribute the programme freely to its customers for a year.
