The wireless trading facility is to be made available to subscribers to Youtrade, Credit Suisse's Java-based online share dealing system for private investors. The bank says it will roll out the PDA-based service to users in the next few days.

The solution has been developed in conjunction with local Swiss software developer Ergon Informatic, and uses SSL 3.0 to provide a service with the same security as is used for a PC with a landline connection, says the bank.

To sync to PDA, Youtrade subscribers place their mobile phones in front of the Palm's infrared interface to make a wireless connection to the Credit Suisse server.

The back-end application at the bank sits on a Sun Enterprise 450 running the Solaris operating system.
