IT pros expect banking to be hot job sector in 2010

Around half of IT professionals think the banking sector will be the most fertile ground for job hunting next year, according to a survey from UK recruitment site IT Job Board.

Of 129 candidates polled, 48% say banking will be the principle sector for recruitment in 2010, despite a difficult 2009. The second most likely area for work is software and IT services, cited by 42%, followed by telecoms, named by 41%.

Peter Healey, sales director, The IT Job Board, says: "I believe that next year the finance sector will really pick up. Banking was the first to be hit during the recession, but it will also be the first to recover, and it will offer a lot of opportunity in terms of IT recruitment."

When it comes to the jobs in demand for 2010, one third think it will be project manager roles with the same figure opting for business analyst jobs.

According to 31% of respondents, .net will be the main skill in demand, while 29% opted for skills in SAP, 26% Java and 26% Web development roles. Most - 58% - think contract jobs will be in greater demand during 2010, compared to permanent positions.
