Germany taking the organisation wallet-for-AI lead and Denmark speeding up citizen wallets

It is probably self-evident by now that the EU trust infrastructure is going to be the fundament not only for productivity, security, business and life event services, MyData privacy and a real Single Market - but also that ID-wallets and AI-agents together is the obvious next AI-step.

The German coalition agreement is driving it:

“The agreement underscores the strategic importance of digital infrastructure for AI and its application in business operations. Germany is set to become a hub for modern data centers and cloud services, aiming to take a leading role in industrial AI.”

At its core is a secure identity for companies from which we can derive trusted identities for systems and AI agents.

So: One would hope that it would be clearly stated in all member states that the very first step for all organisations - especially in the public sector - is to fetch an organisation wallet/agent application from the market.

To be able to start sending and receiving a critical mass of verifiable credentials - and thus open the eyes for all those who want to improve productivity and security - and also those starting to employ AI-agents.

And Denmark is officially entering the next phase of digital identity. Trifork has announced that its subsidiary Nine has been selected to develop Denmark's national digital wallet.

The wallet is expected to go live in Q1 2026, and while it may not initially fully meet the final scope of elDAS 2 compliance, it is planned to evolve and align with EU-level specifications over time. This move reflects a growing trend across EU member states to pilot and implement wallet solutions ahead of the regulation's enforcement deadlines. For service providers and relying parties, Denmark's initiative is another strong signal that EUDI wallet
adoption is accelerating across the continent.

Time also to revisit the tale of two ladders where ChatGTP understood me and wrote:

“In a world where data flows like rivers but trust is dammed up behind bureaucratic walls, there lives Mr. Same Guy.

By day, he's an employee — filing reports, logging into systems, juggling approvals.
By night, he’s just himself — paying bills, accessing health records, verifying who he is to various services.

In the old world, he needed different tools, passwords, and proof every time. One for work. One for home. None of them talked to each other. It was exhausting.

But then, two ladders appeared in front of him.
Each led to the same cloud-kissed summit: a better data economy — fair, secure, and user-centric.

One ladder was marked “Personal”, the other “Organizational”.

ChatGTP did after several attempts draw a simple picture - see here: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/bo-harald-4768b51_imagine-two-ladders-with-the-same-rails-activity-7315261662989639681-r0EU?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop&rcm=ACoAAABPj1oB9_D7YNYACmHvY9HioUqpuULqZCo - with my text here.

  • Both ladders have the same rails. The left is the data issuer’s general purpose de-facto EUDI-interoperable organisation wallet. The right hand one is the wallet used by the verifier. Often the same as most organisations act as both issuers and verifiers.
  • The 1st rung in both ladders is the identity building wallet (over 70 available from the markets as per OWF list).
  • The 2nd rung in both is the personal identification credential (available as Bank ID in the Nordics – soon also state issued).
  • The credential example list is very long and varies depending on role and event. Some examples in the table.

The next plateau Mr Same Guy is climbing to - by getting verified credentials needed in life and business events -  could be called the Era of digital Trust for AI.

Especially as the verified data in wallets will make it safe and easy to employ organisational and personal AI-agents.

Mr Same Guy climbing the ladders

The platform Mr Same Guy’s ladders stand on is based on legislation and other work done in EU, in the EWC-consortium and member states – much based on earlier work in Trust over IP for Self-Sovereign Identity and for my part in MyData and the Findy-consortium.

No doubt that the dynamic duo of the identity wallets and AI-agentswill be the safe and ethical way forward toward the next AI-levels.
