News came recently of a ‘rogue’ computer engineer who locked administrators out of San Francisco’s computer network by changing the master password. Even after being sent to jail, he would not divulge the new code to the system, which stores data like legal records and payroll documents. It just goes to show how important technologists really are – one small action can affect a whole city (and cause losses of over $200,000!) So technologists, remember how important you are – just don’t go planning anything like this, rogue engineer Terry Childs could be facing seven years in jail for his technical wizardry!
