Salomon Smith Barney links to Charles River via FIX

Order management software vendor Charles River Development has certified FIX connectivity between its trading system and Salomon Smith Barney (SSB) in Hong Kong.

FIX connectivity between the two allows investment managers using the Charles River Trading System (CRTS) to electronically route securities orders to SSB in real-time for execution.

CRTS includes portfolio management, compliance, electronic dealing and order management as well as confirmation and settlement connectivity. The vendor says the system is fully FIX-enabled and supports commonly-used FIX message types, including list messages, indications of interest (IOI) and qualified/foreign investor IDs.

In addition, portfolio managers can conduct portfolio modelling, 'what if' analysis and generate securities orders using the system’s portfolio management tool, ManagerWorkbench. Completed orders appear in the CRTS Trading Blotter and can be routed in real-time via FIX to SSB for execution. SSB can send completed trade data back to CRTS for allocation.

Gavin Williamson, director of electronic trading, SSB Asia Pacific, says: "It is the goal of SSB to certify with the order management systems our clients in Asia are using to ensure they comply with our specifics and allow clients a smooth and risk free transition to electronic trading."

Charles River says connectivity provides investment managers with another option for electronic execution. The vendor maintains local development and support offices in Singapore and Sydney and currently offers FIX certification at no charge.
