Reuters instant messaging system is to be made available to participants trading over the FXall corporate currency portal.
Reuters IM was launched in the third quarter of last year in association with Microsoft. It combines real-time communication with SSL 128-bit encryption and a complete audit trail. Reuters has yet to release data traffic figures for the service, but claims 225,000 registered users worldwide.
Under this latest agreement, multibank portal FXall - which recently announced record volumes, crossing the $9bn mark in one day – will bring its client base of more than 425 organisations onboard. The numbers, which include 55 banks and thousands of corporate treasury professionals, will provide a significant boost for the Reuters system as it vies with Bloomberg Mail for market dominance.
Commenting, FXall's CEO Philip Weisberg says: "Crucial in our decision to choose Reuters for messaging was its global presence and prominent position within the financial community. Together with FXall's client base of thousands of FX decision makers in top-tier financial institutions across the globe, we are creating a unique network of market contacts."
