The vendor says a thin client environment - a centrally managed server that runs main applications, with end users requiring only lightweight desktops - will lower the cost of ownership while maintaining the full features of the 3000Xtra product.

Paul Hansford, head of Reuters premium desktop, says: "By working with our customers and responding to the rising popularity of thin client technology, we can now offer our customers additional deployment options and the opportunity of reduced total cost of ownership."

Reuters has also announced it has signed up HP Services as the preferred vendor to provide customers with thin client implementation and consultancy services.

HP says it has been working with both Reuters and Citrix to develop services for the rapid deployment of the 3000Xtra.
