The Link cash machine network is to provide a mobile phone prepay top-up service at ATMs in the UK.
The service will enable prepay mobile phone users to add airtime to their hand sets by inserting their ATM card into the machine and following the screens through the mobile top-up procedure. Payment will be authorised directly from the customer's account.
Vodafone will be the first mobile phone operator to offer the service to its customers, with others expected to follow soon.
Link has also signed up card issuer Creation Financial Services, and ATM company Moneybox Corporation to provide the service on its machines.
Nigel Wright, operations and development director, Link, says: "We envisage the time when customers of any mobile operator will be able to top-up their airtime at any UK ATM, 24 hours a day."
