FIX is a structured language protocol developed for the real-time, electronic exchange of securities transactions and is an integral part of the financial industry's global initiative to achieve straight-through processing (STP).

Under the agreement, the companies will combine the service-oriented, standards-based integration capabilities of Iona's Orbix E2A Web Services Integration Platform, with the transactional FIX infrastructure of Javelin's Appia protocol engine, which provides connectivity for FIX and other financial protocols.

The bundled solution will provide customers with a 100 percent Web services-based integration framework that supports and facilitates FIX transactions and brings financial participants closer to achieving industry-wide STP, say the companies.

John Coulter, COO and president, Javelin Technologies, says: "By combining Iona's Orbix E2A Web Services Integration Platform with our market-leading FIX platform, customers will be able to achieve FIX support through Corba, J2EE or Web services interfaces. This matches up perfectly with Javelin's vision of open connectivity solutions and easy integration tools."
