Phillip Merrick, chairman and CEO, webMethods, explains: "Over the past few years we have seen enterprise-wide integration emerge as a competitive differentiator within the financial services industry. As this demand matures into necessity, we believe the best way to meet the requirements of this market is through a team that is solely dedicated to developing innovative solutions to drive customer success within this market."

The new financial services business unit will include sales and account management, product marketing, product management, engineering, professional services, and global alliances resources.

The unit will be headed by Darren Oberst as vice president and general manager. Prior to joining webMethods, Oberst was managing director of Robertson Stephens' global software investment banking practice.

WebMethods is currently working with financial institutional customers to support implementations of FIX, GSTPA, Swift, IFX, OFX, and Acord, and provides a foundation for integrating data from a full range of applications, including packaged and custom applications, legacy and mainframe systems.
