UK online and telephone bank first direct is to make its debut on the high street with its own branded ATMs.

Twelve first direct branded cash machines, designed to resemble the iconic 'Space Invader' machines, will be installed at various railway stations over the next two weeks.

Each cash machine will be liveried in the distinctive black and white of first direct.

Lisa Wood, head of marketing at first direct, says: "As an internet and telephone bank, the ATMs are a great way for us to give the brand a high street presence in some key high-traffic locations.

That ATM does not look like a 'Space Invader' machine to me.

Is it a coincidence that just as the CEO leaves to start a purely digital bank, First Direct with a great reputation and brand recogniton as a telephone and on-line bank decide make a high street debut?
