Long-suffering customers of Ulster Bank have been hit by the latest in a series of IT glitches that have disrupted online services at the Royal Bank of Scotland subsidiary.
The bank has promised to reimburse customers left out of pocket as a result of the latest failure, which hit overnight payments processing leading to delays in inbound and outbound transactions on customer accounts.
The Ulster Bank helpdesk service on Twitter has been working over-time to reassure customers over this and a series of other IT failures that have beset the bank in recent months.
Ulster Bank parent company RBS was last week left lamenting decades of underinvestment in IT systems after customer debit card transactions died on the busiest shopping day in the calendar. Just days later the embattled British bank was hit by a Distributed Denial of Service attack that disrupted online services for over an hour.
Last summer, customers were locked out of their accounts for several days, costing the bank more than £120 million in compensation and CEO Stephen Hester his bonus.
