RBC signs for Microsoft Surface tech

Microsoft has signed up the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) to the latest version of its multi-touch tabletop screen Surface technology.

The tech giant teamed with Samsung on the newest generation of Surface - unveiled at the recent CES trade show - which features PixelSense technology that provides LCD panels with the power to see without the use of cameras.

RBC already uses Surface in the "discovery zones" of its new retail store branches and plans to expand the concept, installing the latest Samsung SUR40 products.

The bank has worked with Microsoft Surface partner Infusion on applications for clients, including 'the big picture', which allows customers to examine various ways RBC can help meet financial needs and a 'drop a coin' app, letting them slide coins across the screen to display the value of investing.

Meanwhile, 'meet our experts' profiles the local branch staff, 'instant win' allows customers to drop a direct-mail letter on the Surface screen to see if they have won a prize and the 'kids corner' offers an interactive puzzle for children.
