The bank ordered more than 8000 Omni 3200 terminals and SC542 readers from VeriFone in December 2000. This new contract brings the number of VeriFone terminals installed in Turkey to 20,500, which equates to around 10% of the national total.

With the number of payment cards in circulation growing at a rapid rate, from 6.7 million in 1991 to over 40 million by the end of 2000, Turkey now ranks as one of the largest payment card markets in Europe.

The 5000 new terminals will be supplied through VeriFone's partner in Turkey, Istanbul-based Iletisim Teknoloji Danismanlik Ticaret.
