Digital Island is to provide managed Internet infrastructure services for ABN Amro's global financial markets e-commerce operations.
Under terms of the agreement, Digital Island's London data centre will house ABN Amro's servers for its online financial services operations, which focus on the origination, structuring and distribution of debt, and the development of credit, interest rate and foreign exchange solutions.
David Woods, managing director e-commerce, treasury & fixed income, ABN Amro says the bank expects its wholesale client business to increase exponentially in the coming years. "Therefore, we needed a provider that could grow as our business grows, as well as provide a secure environment for the changing needs of our major international corporate and institutional customers."
The outsourcing agreement is expected to save the bank an estimated 25% on the costs of hosting, networking and supporting its operations, says Woods.
