The UK's Nationwide Building Society is piloting a text alert service which will enable current account customers to receive balance information over their mobile phones.
The service will be available to Nationwide's three million FlexAccount customers who can choose to receive either a monthly or a weekly text alert which will provide details of their account balance and a mini statement listing their last six transactions. For customers with a joint account both partners can opt to receive the text alerts.
Jim Willens, retail operations director, Nationwide, says: "Our new text alerting service offers another convenient way for members to manage their finances. We have found that our members are very interested in this new service as it is free, convenient and saves them time."
UK bank Lloyds TSB launched a text alert service for its personal and business Web banking customers in December.
