The SAM Jupiter application is used to manage access privileges to IT systems and applications. The bank will implement the technology to manage more than 40,000 user accounts across its subsidiaries in Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg.

Fortis says it will use the product to introduce role-based security administration for IT platforms by the end of the year. This will allow centralised access to corporate IT systems and internal bank business applications. All user rights can be displayed in one global view.

Marc Simoens, security architect, Fortis Bank Belgium, says: "The SAM Jupiter standard solution can be integrated into the existing security architecture at Fortis Bank without substantial customising work."

Berlin-based Beta Systems Software will provide on-going maintenance for the system.
