Nord/LB Latvija, a subsidiary of Germany's Norddeutsche Landesbank, is the first Baltic bank to offer Visa's 3D Secure services.

Juergen Machalett, the bank's president, says the first merchant has gone live with the service, which will be offered to other merchants and cardholders shortly.

"We are confident that the 3D-Secure based electronic payment security system will positively affect Internet purchasing volumes," says Machalett.
