The co-operative effort combines Nordea's e-invoincing and banking services with TietoEnator's net invoicing and message conversion software. The idea is to overcome the formatting problems and data processing incompatibilites that have hampered the widespread uptake of online invoicing.

Under the new service, invoices sent and received by Nordea customers using the bank's proprietary standards will be passed through a message conversion exchange hosted by TietoEnator for onward receipt and return by non-Nordea customers.

Bo Harald, head of electronic banking at Nordea, believes that the cooperation with TietoEnator will encourage companies of all sizes to speed up the introduction of e-invoices.

"Our ambition is to continue furthering European standardisation to expand the electronic invoicing further into Europe," he says.
