UK cash machine withdrawals drop by over a third in 2020

I'm very much in favour of electronic payments, but it's disturbing to witness a likely disenfranchising of  swathes of the UK's population, as ATMs become less economically viable.   We can't allow the free-market to determine access to cash, alone.

Banks push for UK to increase contactless limit to £100

I'm very much in favour of the move from cash and COVID definitely is another case to do so, however, £100 would represent a massive increase to the limit for a non-authenticated payment. I fear it would also provide munition for conspiracy theorists who see the whole pandemic as being a tool to satisfy the desires of the finance industry.  I wonder what percentage of contactless transactions are using cards vs mobile phones, which of course do include authentication and don't have a limit.

Half of UK FS workforce want to work from home after Covid-19

Speaking as someone who prefers working from home: We shouldn't lose sight of the fact that for those who want to go back to the office, a factor in their thinking is because they want to interract with colleagues.  So it's not just a case of 'each to his/her own'. Those choosing never to go back to the office are degrading the experience of those who want to.   Compromise is needed.

JPMorgan to remove 'master' and 'slave' from code - Reuters

I'm sorry but I really don't get this! Using the terms "Master" and "Slave" to depict which process is in control in no way is condoning human slavery.  This is just political correctness for PR purposes.  It's counterproductive in terms of the real issue at stake.

Lloyds to provide free digital skills training and tablets for elderly customers

Great move. Rather than lazily assuming that the elderly just can't handle tech (as so often happens) let's train them.  They're not stupid.  They just need the opportunity.

Mastercard unveils music single featuring its sonic brand

Never let it be said that the card schemes don't embrace technology....this time in the shape of copious amounts of 'auto-tune'.  ;-)
