In this role, he will work closely with Ben Freeland, Global Head of Software Banking, and report to Kristin Roth DeClark, Head of Technology Investment Banking. Mr. Counselman will focus on strategic M&A and Equity work within the Software Banking team and will be based in Boston. He joins Barclays early next year.

“Lee’s connections with the enterprise software community and his extensive experience advising technology companies on a full range of M&A, debt and equity solutions will be of great value to our clients and further strengthens our franchise,” says Kristin Roth DeClark, Head of Technology Investment Banking.

Technology is an increasingly significant sector for Barclays Corporate & Investment Bank, which currently ranks third in both Global M&A for Technology Software and Americas Equity for Software. The hire of Mr. Counselman further illustrates Barclays’ priority of expanding coverage capabilities in Technology and Software-specific Banking.

A senior technology banker for more than 20 years, Mr. Counselman brings with him deep knowledge of the software and technology services sectors and extensive M&A and Capital Markets advisory experience. He joins Barclays from Moelis & Company, where he most recently served as a Managing Director, Global Head of Software and Services Advisory. Before joining Moelis, Mr. Counselman was Global Head of Software Investment Banking at Deutsche Bank and previously served as the firm’s Co-Head of Technology M&A. Prior to that, he worked at Merrill Lynch & Co. and The Carlyle Group. He has worked on a number of transactions of note throughout his career, including the divestitures of SAP’s Litmos business to Francisco Partners and SDI business to Sinch AB. He has also acted as financial advisor to Carlyle in Twilio’s minority investment and partnership with Syniverse, restructuring advisor to the crossholder lender group of Skillsoft, and buyside advisor to Siemens in its acquisition of Mendix.

Mr. Counselman’s appointment is the latest in an extensive number of important strategic hires for Barclays, demonstrating a continued commitment to investing in top talent within the Corporate and Investment Bank.
