The key hires will help to drive business growth and to bring greater efficiency, conversion rates, and cost savings to merchants across the world.

Founded in 2016, APEXX combines acquirers, gateways, shopping carts and Alternative Payments Methods into a single API connection. Its platform is partner-agnostic, transparent and integrated to provide a ‘one-stop solution’ for merchants.

Lucy brings a wealth of experience from the financial and technology industries having held roles at Finastra, the financial software solutions company, and Sage Plc, the enterprise software company where she looked after major payment partners including PayPal, FIS, MasterCard, and Visa. Lucy also supported the global implementation of SAAS payment technology across Sage’s accountancy products and helped drive the sale of its UKI payments business Opayo (formerly Sage Pay) to Elavon (a subsidiary of U.S. Bancorp).

Jan is a travel and payments veteran with over 20 years’ experience across the global business travel and payments sectors. He has considerable experience in streamlining customer processes and maximising user experience. Prior to joining APEXX, Jan held roles at Unzer, the German payments provider, where he bolstered innovative payments solutions for the mobility and travel industry, and Wirecard, where he led the Travel & Mobility sales team for over ten years. He has also held several roles at American Express.

Peter Keenan, CEO and Co-founder of APEXX, said: “It’s fantastic to welcome Lucy and Jan to the APEXX team. It has been a challenging year for all, but APEXX has proved resilient - today’s announcement is a testament to our strong growth, in addition to our ambitions for 2021. With Lucy and Jan on board I am confident that we will continue to accelerate, revolutionising the payments industry to bring frictionless payments solutions to merchants globally. Welcome to the team!”

Commenting on her new role, Lucy Underwood said: ‘I am delighted to be joining the APEXX team as Head of Partnerships at such an exciting time in the company’s development. In times of rapid change in technology and regulation, enterprise clients are looking to agile partners who enable them to scale and innovate at pace and APEXX are well placed to become the market leaders. I look forward to bringing my knowledge, expertise, and extensive partner network to work alongside an already experienced industry team.”

Commenting on his new role, Jan Ruebel said: “APEXX is an innovative, disruptive and industry leading business. Now more than ever, merchants are looking to reduce complexity and cost whilst boosting conversion rates as they navigate the evolving landscape. I am excited to apply my extensive understanding of innovative payment solutions and seamless transactions, as well as my strong pan-European network, to help drive growth and merchant success in the newly established role of VP of Sales Europe.”
