Diem Association hires another former HSBC staffer as chief of staff

The Diem Association, an independent member organization developing a blockchain-based payment system to support financial inclusion and responsible financial services innovation, is pleased to announce the appointment of Christy Clark as Chief of Staff.

Ms. Clark brings nearly two decades of experience in financial services and national security within both the public and private sectors, previously serving in the U.S. Department of the Treasury and the U.S Senate. Most recently, Ms. Clark served as Chief of Staff of the global legal department at HSBC Holdings plc and formerly served as the department’s Chief Operating Officer.

“Christy is a demonstrated leader with expertise in global financial and regulatory issues,” said Stuart Levey, CEO of the Diem Association. “I am looking forward to working with Christy and know that her global public policy experience, industry expertise, and leadership will be essential to advancing our mission.”

About Christy Clark
Christy Clark is the Chief of Staff of the Diem Association. Prior to joining the Association, she served as the Chief of Staff of the global legal department at HSBC Holdings plc, and she previously served as the department’s Chief Operating Officer. As Chief of Staff, she advised members of the bank’s Group Executive Committee and other senior executives on strategies for responding to high-profile legal, reputational, geopolitical and regulatory issues, represented the bank externally to regulators, government authorities, and other stakeholders on a range of issues, and oversaw the legal department’s advice globally on financial crime regulatory and enforcement-related matters. As Legal COO, she also oversaw the management of the operations and internal communications of the department, which included over a thousand employees in 50 jurisdictions.

Prior to joining HSBC, Ms. Clark was a Principal at a Washington-based public affairs firm where she developed government relations and communications strategies for multinational corporate clients in the financial services, defense, and energy sectors. From 2005 to 2010, she served as the Chief of Staff to the Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, where she drove the development and execution of financial strategies for combating national security threats and protecting the integrity of the financial system. Earlier in her career, Ms. Clark served in several roles in the US Senate, including, as Foreign Policy and Defense Advisor to former U.S. Senator Jon Kyl (R-AZ).
