Douugh Ltd (ASX: DOU) (The Company or Douugh) has hired Tom Mayes, co-creator of the BeemIt payments app and most recently Design Lead – Loyalty and Fintech – Native Apps at Woolworths.
Founder and CEO Andy Taylor said the hire was a great testament to Douugh’s ambitious mission.
“Tom is one of the brightest minds in this country when it comes to product and app design and I couldn’t be more thrilled that he believes so passionately in our mission to make the world financially healthier. By building out a fully fledged financial wellness app that our users cannot live without,” he said. “Tom’s expertise across not only consumer product design, but agency experience in brand & advertising will help take Douugh to a whole nother level in terms of customer engagement, function and virality.”
Mayes led the creation of millennial and gen-z focused P2P payments app BeemIt from 2017 at Commonwealth Bank. The app, which has more than one million users appealing to ‘metro techs’, was recently sold to Eftpos. Mayes said the opportunity to work with such an ambitious and disruptive purpose-led international fintech was key to his decision to jump out of corporate life and into a startup.
“I’m super passionate about Douugh’s mission and love that it’s something that will improve people’s lives, which they will rely on daily to help them manage and grow their money,” he said. “The chance to lead every brand touchpoint, with the freedom to take creative control, and really push the boundaries in banking and chase those big ideas is super exciting to me.”
Mayes joins Douugh on January 11th, 2021 and will be based in the Sydney HQ.
