UniCredit today announced that it is appointing Marco Bressan, a renowned data scientist with a long-standing background and experience of data driven transformation, as Group Data and Analytics Officer.

Marco will drive UniCredit's roll-out of advanced analytics and use of new technologies to support and enhance its commercial activities, product and services portfolio and internal controls.

Wouter Devriendt, Head of Finance & Controls said: "Marco has outstanding knowledge and skills of driving transformational projects in large corporates and his experience of working in data driven start-ups will bring entrepreneurial and can-do spirit to the Group. Marco was one of the founding members of the UniCredit Transformation & Innovation Advisory Board, meaning he is already familiar with the bank and will be able to hit the ground running. His initial focus will be to strengthen a groupwide data culture whilst building a best in class team across UniCredit to ensure the Group remains a long-term pan-European winner in a rapidly changing banking environment."

Marco is currently Chief Data Scientist and Product Officer at Satellogic, a start-up that has already launched 21 earth imaging satellites, allowing amongst other things to help measure the progress of global climate solving efforts. Previously he was Chief Data Scientist at BBVA where he also created BBVA Data & Analytics a subsidiary focused on data science built to lead BBVA data-driven transformation. His work was studied as a reference in the sector and, for this effort, Marco was awarded the Digital Masters Award for Excellence in Transformational Use of Data. Before BBVA Marco was Chief Innovation Officer at Xerox.

Marco Bressan, an Argentinian national, will be joining UniCredit on 1st February 2021. He will report to Wouter Devriendt, Head of Finance & Controls, and become a member of UniCredit's group Executive Management Committee.
