Icon Solutions, the leading provider of technology solutions and real-time payments expertise, today announced the appointment of industry luminary Gene Neyer as Executive Advisor to the board.

With over 30 years’ experience at leading technology firms and industry bodies, Gene will provide strategic guidance on Icon’s real-time payments (RTP) strategy across the globe. His focus will be on North America product evolution for Icon’s Instant Payment Framework (IPF) and its go-to-market strategy.

Gene brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to Icon Solutions, with previous roles including Head of Industry and Regulation for Finastra and the global payments lead at both D+H and Fundtech. Gene is involved in a number of prominent industry groups including the Governance Framework Formation Taskforce (successor to the Fed Faster Payments Taskforce) and is the Chair of the Supplier Committee at the Bankers Association for Finance and Trade. He is also a past representative to the European Banking Authority, Fed, International Payments Framework Association and The Clearing House.

Tom Kelleher, Commercial Director at Icon Solutions said: “Gene is a great addition to the Icon team. With an enviable track record and wealth of experience, Gene will be invaluable in our mission to deliver pioneering real-time payments.

“RTP is still a new development for many markets and institutions around the world, Gene’s 30 years’ experience means Icon is better placed than ever to bring value to our clients and support the growth of the wider industry.

“Gene’s extensive knowledge of the international financial sector will be invaluable in cementing Icon at the forefront of the global payments evolution and extending our reach via our leading RTP solution – the Instant Payments Framework (IPF). We’re excited to bring Gene onboard and begin realising our ambitions for 2018.”

Gene Neyer, Executive Advisor at Icon Solutions said: “Icon’s product and thought leadership in global RTP has been evident for some time. I was not only drawn to the world class, dynamic and innovative payments team but to a company dedicated to separating fact from fiction when it comes to implementing RTP.

“The move to real-time is a transformational event for the entire business, not just payments, and is a cornerstone in the wider shift to Open Banking. This requires new thinking and a new approach, and Icon has both. Our open source solution, IPF, will allow the industry to quickly and cost effectively meet the challenges head on by leveraging existing investments without burdening new rails with legacy overheads. IPF will not only move the industry forward today but future proof it for tomorrow”.
