The appointment is in response to increasing client demand for innovative risk solutions to support investment strategies and portfolio construction. Coverdale will be responsible for business development and operations in Asia ex-Japan, including China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Korea and Singapore.

He will be working closely with Olivier d’Assier, Asia-Pacific (“APAC”) Managing Director at Axioma.

“The appointment follows unprecedented growth we are seeing among institutional clients in Asia, particularly in the multi-asset space, for advanced and flexible tools that support portfolio construction and strategy optimization. Joel is an asset to the team as an industry veteran with local expertise and extensive experience in risk management and analytics,” said d’Assier.

Coverdale brings over 16 years of industry experience in Asia and Europe. Prior to Axioma, he worked for BlackRock in a number of senior roles across the Asian business and before that, at MSCI Barra in London, as a senior consultant. He has hands-on risk management experience working with multiple asset classes across a diverse set of geographic regions.

Commenting on his appointment, Coverdale said, “Asian investors today must demonstrate the value of their products and are seeking robust technology for strategy implementation and risk management. I look forward to working with cutting edge risk solutions and a strong team that truly provides long-term value for our Asia clients.”

The announcement follows the recent appointment of Sam Ho as Head of Equity Solutions and Client Services for Asia-Pacific and Nathan Mackey as Head of Enterprise Risk Solutions and Client Services for Asia-Pacific. Both of them will report to Olivier d’Assier.

Ho will oversee the APAC Equity Solutions and Client Services team, covering support, client solutions and implementation services for the region. He joined Axioma in 2006 with the focus of introducing the firm’s equity risk management solutions to clients in the APAC markets, developing new business and establishing a solid client base for Axioma.

“Sam successfully established and led the Asia Pacific client-facing team whose efforts resulted in significant equity business expansion for the firm. Existing and new clients will both benefit from his expertise and dedication to client service,” said d’Assier.

Mackey will oversee the APAC Enterprise Risk Solutions and Client Services team, covering support, client solutions, and implementation services for the region. He joined Axioma from MSCI, where he spent approximately eight years, most recently as Business Manager of its Risk & Portfolio Management Analytics business lines.

“I am very excited that Nathan has chosen to join us with his expertise in the multi-asset class risk domain to oversee our entry into this market and to deliver best-of-class service to our clients’ risk office,” added d’Assier.
