Paul Lyon has joined Wolters Kluwer Financial Services in a newly created role as its director of Corporate Communications for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (Emea).
He joins the global financial services technology provider in its City of London office with a remit to develop and execute comprehensive communications plans that strengthen the Wolters Kluwer brand in the EMEA region. He will be responsible for the strategy and execution of all public relations activities, advising on internal communications across the region, also leading analyst relations.
Lyon has 15 years of experience in the financial markets, holding senior communications and marketing roles at leading global banks. He was previously executive director and head of Communication & Marketing for Daiwa Capital Markets, the international investment banking arm of Japan’s Daiwa Securities Group, a 14,000 strong financial services firm quoted on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. During almost six years with the firm he created and oversaw the function responsible for all public relations, internal communications and the wider corporate brand strategy.
“Paul brings a wealth of financial services and media experience to the role and we are delighted to have him on board,” commented Jennifer Marso, U.S.-based vice president of Corporate Marketing & Communications. “He will take the lead on all regional communications and analyst relations efforts as part of the global communications team and overall EMEA go-to-market activities.”
Prior to heading communications for Daiwa, Lyon worked as head of Key Media, Communication & Marketing for The Royal Bank of Scotland’s investment banking business, leading global media and communications strategy. He started his career in financial journalism, working as a senior journalist on Incisive Media title Risk magazine before becoming founding editor of Structured Products magazine, specializing in risk and regulatory coverage. He holds degrees in Literature and International Relations from the University of California, Berkeley and University of Birmingham and a Master’s degree from the University of London. He is a published author of books on risk management and has lectured on Financial Communications and Marketing at University level.
“In this rapidly changing regulatory landscape, financial organizations require a robust risk management, governance and regulatory reporting framework. Wolters Kluwer Financial Services is in an excellent position to enable these firms to successfully navigate regulatory complexity, optimize risk and financial performance,” noted Lyon. “Regulatory, governance and risk considerations are clearly the key topics for the entire financial industry so as a communications professional I am excited to be joining Wolters Kluwer to articulate the firm’s leading global capabilities in these areas.”
