Payment Data Systems, Inc. an integrated electronic payments solutions provider, announced today the addition of two highly experienced and successful individuals to its staff of sales personnel.
Mr. John Welsh is joining Payment Data Systems as the Vice President of Sales. Most recently Mr. Welsh served as Vice President of Sales for NetNearU Corporation a private company organized to provide WiFi Hotspots and Internet Kiosk software to VARs, and other such customers on a domestic and global basis. Mr. Welsh was instrumental in developing relationships that led to signing British Petroleum to a $1.2 million contract and played a significant role in securing contracts with Sprint Communications, NCR Corporation, AT&T Corporation, and Verizon Communications.
Mr. Welsh's prior position was as the Vice President of Sales for Qwest. Mr. Welsh joined Qwest, then known as U.S. Long Distance and later as USLD, in 1993 when its annual revenues were $70 million. After building significant revenues through the development of a highly capable internal and channel market sales organization, USLD elected to spin off the operator services billing subsidiary as a separate publicly held company, creating Billing Concepts in August 1996.
After the spin-off, Mr. Welsh's role was expanded and became the Vice President responsible for all revenue development of USLD. At the time of the spin-off USLD had a market capitalization of $70 million and Mr. Welsh had delivered revenues in excess of $450 million. During his tenure Mr. Welsh also contributed significantly to 12 successful acquisitions by USLD.
After six consecutive quarters of growth in revenue and earnings per share, USLD sold to LCI International and was subsequently sold to Qwest, Inc. At the time of the sale, the combined market capitalization of USLD and Billing Concepts was approximately $1.2 billion. Mr. Welsh will be located in our corporate offices in San Antonio, Texas.
Ms. Connie Allen is joining Payment Data Systems as a Sales Manager. Ms. Allen has over 16 years in direct retail and merchant sales and most recently was a Regional Territory Manager for Global Payments, Inc. In every situation Ms. Allen has exceeded her revenue production quotas and has always been the top performer. In a number of organizations she has been responsible for establishing and developing highly motivated sales groups that under her leadership matured into top producers. Ms. Allen will work out our new sales office in Ooltewah, TN.
