Silicon Valley-based ViVOtech, the leader in contactless payment systems and Near Field Communication (NFC) mobile payment and promotions, today announced that John Shap has been appointed Senior Vice President of Global Sales.

Shap brings over 25 years of experience in leading sales and business teams in organizations large and small, selling products and services to major corporations in retail, financial and other verticals.

"I am very pleased to welcome John to the executive team and look forward to his contributions to the success of ViVOtech," said Michael Mullagh, ViVOtech's CEO. "John has significant experience working with retailers to apply technology solutions that improve the fundamentals of retail operations: sales, customer service, loyalty, and efficiency. We look forward to having him apply this valuable experience to sell ViVOtech's next-generation contactless and mobile payments and promotions solutions that will change how retailers and consumers interact."

Shap's experience includes the role of Senior Vice President for World Wide Sales & Marketing at DemandTec (NASDAQ: DMAN - News), a consumer demand management Software-as-a-Service solution provider that helps retailers and consumer product manufacturers strategically plan, optimize, and execute demand-driven merchandising and marketing programs based on a qualified understanding of consumer demand. Shap held the same executive-level position for SPSS Inc. (NASDAQ: SPSS - News), a leading worldwide provider of predictive analytics and market research software, solutions and services that also served the retail and financial verticals.

"In today's challenging economy, technologies that offer significant efficiencies and improvements to the way retailers operate are more important than ever," said Shap. "ViVOtech's innovative POS and Mobile payment and promotion products do just that, and I am excited to lead the effort to spread the word about the advantages they bring - to both the retailer and to the consumer that has become so valuable in this competitive market."

During his career, Shap has also built a strong track record of sales growth and skillful management of resources in the U.S. and internationally, for companies such as Initiate Systems, Siebel Systems and Hyperion Solutions. Shap is a graduate of Northern Illinois University.

ViVOtech NFC mobile and contactless infrastructure software technologies span the entire mobile payment ecosystem, from banks, merchants, mobile operators and service providers to their customers. The resulting technology forms the foundation for a range of new consumer payment, loyalty and marketing promotion services, including personalized discounts and incentives, and a faster and more convenient transaction experience at checkout.
