Welcoming the appointment, John Berns, MD of Accourt, said: "We are delighted that Roger has joined the team. His wide-ranging experience will reinforce further the capabilities of the firm and provide real value to our customers across Europe. His reputation for insight, strategic thought and innovation will be an exceptional asset as our clients seek to improve their performance in these challenging times."

Roger is widely recognised as an industry expert in the card and merchant payments arena. He was formerly CEO of Elavon Merchant Services, one of Europe's major acquirers that offers payments processing for debit and credit cards in more than 15 countries.

Immediately prior to joining Elavon Merchant Services Roger was, for three years, CEO of S2 Card Services Limited (previously Switch), the UK's major domestic debit card scheme. He joined S2 after three years as a partner with Edgar, Dunn & Company, a US-based strategic management consultancy specialising in payment systems.

Roger started his banking career with Barclays Bank, where he spent 31 years in a variety of roles, culminating in 1994 in his appointment as a Director of Barclaycard and Managing Director of the Barclays Bank Emerging Markets Group.

Commenting on his new role, Roger Alexander said: "I am very pleased to be joining Accourt - a company that I respect, having worked with them as a client on a number of occasions. This is an exciting time in the European payments sector and I look forward to supporting the team at Accourt with their extensive client base."

Roger, who is 60 and married with three children, was recognised by the UK industry earlier this year when he was awarded "Cards Personality of the Year" at the prestigious 2008 Card Awards.
