In addition, Schlumberger says Visa has evaluated both the MagIC X1000 and MagIC 5100 terminals to ensure compliance with the Triple Des security standard.

Visa says that from January 2004, all newly deployed point-of-sale PIN entry devices will be required to comply with both PED and Triple Des standards and warns that banks deploying products without approval will be liable for any fraudulent transactions occurring due to PIN security being compromised at the point-of-sale.

Schlumberger received Visa PED accreditation for its MagIC 1800 multilane terminal last year.

Jean-Paul Mengus, POS marketing manager, Schlumberger Smart Cards & Terminals, says the firm has now secured Visa PED and Triple Des certification across the entire MagIC range.
