Reuters to bolster US equity market coverage

Reuters has announced plans to increase significantly its US equities markets news coverage.

As part of this plan, a team of 30 new journalists will focus on original initiative reporting in active market segments such as technology, biotech and the funds industry.

"Producing differentiated, proprietary content is a core element of our corporate strategy," says Tom Glocer, CEO, Reuters Information and Reuters America. "The 2100 journalists we deploy around the world are a key asset. This new investment will build global value and simultaneously extend our presence in the crucial US market."

Expanded US market news coverage will be incorporated into the full array of Reuters products for financial professionals.

Reuters expects to begin hiring shortly, and add new staff over several months. Some will work on the US West Coast to bolster coverage of the technology sector, but most will be located in New York. Reuters currently employs about 400 journalists in the US.
