Westpac Banking Corporation today advised customers to ignore emails requesting confidential information such as user ids and passwords following the detection of a 'ghost' Internet banking site located overseas which has already been shut down.
The bank says it has taken action to have the site investigated via the Australian Federal Police and the FBI.
It is the latest in a series of bogus Web scams to hit the Australian banking community. However, unlike earlier confidence tricks in which the fake URL could be viewed in the task bar, this one displayed Westpac's real Web site address.
