XLS is designed to boost revenue by enabling banks to add new applications - such as loyalty points, coupons, punch cards and cask back features - to smart cards.

The bank says all its Visa and MasterCard EMV cards will be pre-loaded with XLS from July 2003.

Alex Tan, CEO, Welcome ASPAC, says Malaysia is the first country in the Asia-Pacific region to embark on a full scale national migration to EMV smart cards.
