The new implementation replaces an older Syntegra system installed in 1994 and includes the vendor's IP-ready pV405Hi turrets running on ITS Release 13 software along with pVs81i speakers and pVm5i platform intercoms. The new system is supported by an ITS p107 telephony switch.

HSBC is also deploying Syntegra's ITSlink computer telephony integration (CTI) software to interface with its voice recording system. The system links relevant customer details, trade history and portfolio information to both incoming and outgoing calls.

The bank will also use ITSprofile and ITSmonitor services from Syntegra's ITS Management Suite to enable administrators to configure and monitor traders' turrets both on the trading floor and remotely.

As part of the project, the vendor has installed voice recording technology from Witness Systems to allow the bank to play back recordings over the internal private network.

Julian Grudzien, regional head of telecommunications, HSBC Asia Pacific, says: "The greatest benefit the new Syntegra technology offers is an enhanced digital infrastructure. It also enables us to configure individual turrets much more easily."

Grudzien adds that the new system brings the main trading floor in Hong Kong in line with the HSBC centres in London and New York.

UK-based Syntegra says the new system will allow traders to take advantage of the digital and Internet Protocol (IP) channels now available and will help the bank migrate to Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) when it becomes appropriate.
