Schlumberger says the MagIC 9000 multi-application portable terminal can be used as a stand-alone system or integrated with third party software.

The product is equipped with a radio link that enables online transactions within a radius of 100 metres and can handle offline transactions at any distance, allowing transactions to be completed wherever a customer is served.

Pierre Lemay, director, e-commerce solution development, Desjardins Online Solutions, says the short-range wireless solution will allows the firm to service specialised market segments, such as restaurants.

"Furthermore, having a technology that accepted smart cards was also very important," says Lemay.
