The London Stock Exchange (LSE) has appointed Karen Young and Roberto Rivero as head of business development and head of sales and marketing, respectively, at its information services division. The exchange has also appointed Guy Whittle to head up sales and product management at its market services unit.
Young joins the LSE from Caplin Systems where she was commercial director. A Stock Exchange old-timer, Young left the Exchange in 1993 for an eight-year stint at Thomson Financial, the last two spent as chief executive of ICV.
As well as taking responsibility for finding new business opportunities, Young will also oversee the exchange's recent information services initiatives, including the new LSE subsidiary Proquote, the corporate data warehouse and the changeover to alphanumeric SEDOL codes.
Rivero, named head of sales and marketing for information services, has been working at the Exchange for the past year. He was previously marketing director, fidessaNet, royalblue financial.
Both Young and Rivero will report to LSE chief information officer, David Lester.
While turnover in the Exchange's information services division increased seven per cent from £71.5 million to £76.7 million for the nine months to December 2002, desktop terminal numbers fell from 100,000 to 98,000 (31 December 2001: 107,000). A key part of Young's role is to identify and develop new products and services that will diversify the Exchange's information services revenue.
Whittle was most recently responsible for running Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein's wholesale and retail equity business on Bestconnect.
He will report to the new post of director of market services, for which the Exchange is currently recruiting.
