The bill pay service enables customers to pay regular UK bills via the Bacs clearing system, while international transfers via a new Web facility are 40% cheaper than through previous channels.

Customers can also use the site to view account histories, manage open-ended investment funds, open new accounts and receive e-statements.

Mark Trasler, head of offshore commerce, HSBC, says twice the percentage of offshore customers use Internet banking compared to the HSBC's stay-at-home customers in the UK.

"In addition to the host of new and improved features, the site has been reorganised to be more intuitive and logical - with fewer 'clicks' needed to access the most frequently used facilities," says Trasler.
