Pink Sheets develops pocket-sized securities portal

Random Walk Computing has developed a version of the pinksheets.com over-the-counter (OTC) securities information portal that is accessible from wireless-connected personal digital assistants(PDAs).

The wireless option allows investors to access information on more than 4800 OTC stocks from PDAs equipped with wireless modems, such as those using the popular OmniSky mobile Internet service, says the company.

Cromwell Coulson, chairman of new York-based market data company Pink Sheets says in today’s volatile markets, keeping in touch with the latest price movements and news is vital. He claims investors can now keep tabs on the OTC market from virtually anywhere.

The pinksheets.com service offers 15-minute delayed stock quotes, intra- and inter-day performance charts, company information, company news items, and SEC filings.

The Random Walk software engine powering the new PDA version has been developed entirely in Java and features: Java Servlet architecture; JavaServer Pages for delivering specially rendered pages via an Apache Web server to wireless users; interfaces to Pink Sheet’s internal quotation system, using Tibco Software’s TIB/Rendezvous messaging middleware; and HTTP Linkages to Financial Insight Systems, a third-party financial information provider.

Eric Lehrfeld, director of business development at Random Walk says: "Delivering services to wireless devices is clearly becoming a must-have for financial services organisations, and Java is a great technology for achieving that.
