SchlumbergerSema has won a contract to supply several million EMV plus PIN eGalleon cards to Barclaycard during 2003.
Under the agreement, SchlumbergerSema will provide Barclaycard UK with manufacturing and pre-personalisation services for its next generation of EMV bank cards that employ PIN as the method of customer authentication. The order accounts for approximately half of Barclaycard's UK card supply requirements for the national PIN at the point-of-sale migration programme.
Andrea Wood, head of Barclaycard's card operations, comments: "The SchlumbergerSema EMV plus PIN smart card is a key tool in enabling us to provide a secure service to our customers. We are looking forward to putting these cards into use in 2003."
Barclaycard is the largest issuer of debit/credit cards in Europe, and is one of the first UK banks to apply smart card technology to its banking cards.
