Dublin-based e-business provider Iona has signed up to the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications' (Swift) alliance partner programme.

As an alliance partner, Iona will work with Swift and its member organisations to submit, adopt and promote Swift messaging standard proposals and technical guidelines. It will drive the adoption of Web services in the financial services industry with Swift.

Linda Bookheim, partner solutions business manager at Swift, says: "Using a simpler and lower cost mechanism such as Web services will extend Swift integration and leverage new standards such as ISO-15022, particularly for buy-side participants. It is really innovative and practical."

She adds: "As Iona looks to extend connectivity to Swift, we are pleased to welcome them as a Swift registered partner."
