Winterthur Insurance, a subsidiary of Credit Suisse Group, has licensed Iona's Orbix E2A Web services integration and application server platforms for enterprise development.
Winterthur Insurance began using Iona's Corba technology for application development and integration in 1998, and has standardised on Iona's J2EE and mainframe technologies over the last four years to build and integrate new Web-based applications with legacy business systems.
The European insurer will now deploy Iona's Orbix E2A Web services integration and application server platforms as the core technology anchoring its enterprise software architecture (e-Platform). Winterthur's e-Platform will support all of the insurance company's current and future application development and integration projects. The e-Platform currently supports 20 enterprise applications in the countries of Switzerland, Germany, Belgium and Spain.
Martin Butler, president and CEO of the Butler Group, comments: "By building a service-oriented application infrastructure, first using Iona's Corba technologies and now Web services with Orbix E2A, Winterthur is future-proofing their software infrastructure by committing to standards."
